Hey! It's Alexis Neelyhere from myliftfoundation.com with a Spend Less TV Exclusive just in time for tax time.

I know many of you are worried. It is almost tax time and you are wondering, "Oh my God, did I do the right thing? Should I have planned better?" And if you're wondering that, the answer is probably "Yes," because April is the worst time to be doing your tax planning. So all you can do at this point is to just do the best you can, don't beat yourself up if you didn't do good tax planning for this year.

Maybe you're planning too much, maybe you're paying too much, maybe you are in a situation where you don't feel prepared, and you're having to file an extension - that's okay. Extensions are perfectly okay. You can absolutely file an extension on your taxes, just make sure if you do, that you pay the amount of taxes that you think you might need to pay, and over estimate, so you don't get stuck with a penalty.

Once you file your taxes you can always get a refund for any over-payment. But do make sure that you file the tax extension, over-pay, and make a commitment to yourself that next year, you are going to do advance planning.

And the best time to start planning is this summer. Find a CPA that is not just a transactional CPA who is just going to file your taxes, but someone who will be strategic, more of a coach, a business coach, like the kind of lawyers that we recommend. We never recommend that you go to a transactional business lawyer that's going to just set up your corporation and send you on your way, or do some meeting minutes for you and send you on your way, you want a trusted advisor. And it's the same with a CPA. You want a CPA who's strategic, who's consultative, and you want to find that person, not now, those folks are way to busy righ now to be planning with you; they're filing tax returns and extensions. You need to find that CPA that summer. Start in May and June.

Have a strategic meeting this summer and then plan another one in the Fall, in October, so that you can really make the decisions that you need to so that next April, you can breathe easy knowing that you paid as little as possible to the government, kept as much in your pocket, and you did the right thing for your business and your family.
